Hi Julie and Christina,
We loved your event and I found it was awesome that you placed top 15 soloists and handed out so many awards especially in the novice division. As a studio owner with such a big novice team this year, it meant a lot to see them recognized up there and I know that really heightened the experience. The competition was fierce but we left inspired and loved seeing so much talent!
I have listened to a couple of the critiques and found that the judges provided some valuable feedback. I love the way they would explain things in a “if you do this, you can expect to get this type of result” type way as opposed to just “stretch your feet!” Or pointing out the obvious. They did a really great job, so I am giving them kudos as well!
So thank you again for such a great event- we look forward to coming back again!

Look how far we’ve come ππΌ 2012 was a pivotal year for Be Dance, when we held our first event in a Niagara Falls hotel ballroom. This show was completely different from anything we had ever done before, with the added element of building a stage and bringing in our own production team, this was most certainly a memorable moment in time for dance competitions as an industry. My name is Emma Culbert and I am one of the 2023 Be Dance Academic Scholarship recipients. This year I am attending the University of Waterloo and I’m studying Civil Engineering. So far I am finding my studies challenging but very rewarding. My courses are pushing me to work collaboratively with others, think critically and manage my time. Ultimately, my goal is to be a civil engineer where I will be in a profession that I find fulfilling and one in which I am making a difference by helping to build and improve infrastructure for the community. Dance will always be a part of my life. When I come home from school, I take the time to drop into my old studio, to connect with teachers, former students and friends. During our 2023 season we awarded 4 participants with Post Secondary Education Cash Scholarships!β¨ We were honoured to award Kira Roger, a cash scholarship of $1500 to put towards her education at Dalhousie University. We checked in on her last week and here is what she had to say πππ» “Hi everyone! My name is Kira Roger and I am one of the 2023 Be Dance scholarship recipients. I grew up attending Be Dance competitions every year with my home studio, and when I heard about the post-secondary scholarship opportunity, I applied right away! As a first-year student at Dalhousie University in Halifax, I have big dreams of becoming either a physiotherapist or an occupational therapist with the use of my BSc Kinesiology. While I am no longer dancing with my studio, I am able to keep competitive dance in my life as a member of Dalhousie’s Black & Gold Dance Team. This scholarship is helping me to pursue my academic goals while continuing to dance, and I couldn’t be more thankful to Julie, Christina, and Be Dance for this incredible opportunity!” We are beyond excited for Kira to embark on this journey and feel so honoured to be a part of it! Recently, we took a trip to York University to visit one of our 2023 scholarship winners - Sabrina Tamburro.
